There is nothing like a pair of baby booties to bring out the aahhh factor, and  add a little teddy bear head and you know you have a winner! They are an easy knit and make a cute little gift for a baby.

These booties are knitted in DK yarn on 3mm. needles and 2.75 needles for the teddy bear head. They are knitted flat on two needles and seamed at the back.

Knitted Teddies & Baby Booties

Blog Teddies 1

Who doesn’t love a teddy bear? Since their creation at the beginning of the 20th century they have become synonymous with childhood and hold a prominent place in children’s literature. Hard to think of a nursery without a little bear sitting somewhere and although they can be made in a variety of fabrics nothing is more appealing than a knitted teddy.

Green Teddy 4

These teddy bears would make an ideal gift for a new baby especially when teamed with an adorable pair of matching baby booties.

White Teddy 9

The bears are knitted in reverse stocking stitch and have a removable duffle coat knitted  in garter stitch. They are constructed to be in a sitting position and are 9 inches (23 cms) so good size to sit nicely in a cot or playpen and be treasured forever!!

Little Dazzler Teddy Bear

Three Teds

At long last I’ve managed to write up my teddy bear pattern. It’s been a long time coming, but it is now been tweaked and test knitted and laid out in a form my fellow knitters should be able to follow!

Twin teds 1

The bear is in a sitting position and measures 23 cms (9 inches) in height. It is knitted in DK yarn, I used Hayfield bonus DK which I was happy with.  All pieces are knitted flat on two needles, so a bit of seaming to do, but the seams do give structure and stability to the toy. The bear is knitted in a reverse stocking stitch, I do like reverse stocking stitch for bears, gives them a bit of a vintage look.

Twin teds 6

The facial features are all embroidered using mainly satin stitch, but safety eyes could be used if preferred.

Twin Teds 9

The duffle coat is knitted in garter stitch, which is simple and straight forward to do and is fastened using baby toggle buttons.

The pattern is a 15 page PDF document giving row by row instructions to knit up the bear and duffle coat and contains plenty of photographs to help with construction. The pattern is now available on Etsy and Ravelry.

Bears and Boots

Blog Bear 1

I love teaming up little novelty baby booties with a matching toy. Together they make a lovely gift for baby showers and a good way to show off the knitting prowess!

These teddy bears are knitted in DK yarn on 4mm needles and measure 9 inches (23cms) in a sitting position.

Blog Bear

The clothes are removable. The little duffle coat is knitted in garter stitch on 3.75 needles and is a perfect snug fit.

Blue Bear 8

As with all little teddies they can become addictive to knit, here is one with a yellow duffle coat.

Teddy Set 2

The booties have a single rib cuff with plenty of stretch to be comfortable around little ankles, the sole measures  4.25 inches (11cms) with plenty of stretch to fit babies up to 6 months and beyond.

Teddy Slippers 6

They can be knitted with a jumper instead of a duffle, this one has a comfy cabled polo neck, which again can be removed for washing. Another idea would be to knit one with a jumper incorporating the baby’s initial.

I’ve recently knitted a teddy bear to go with a little girl’s shoe and hat set.

Baby Gift Set 5

This little bear was knitted in a chenille style yarn which was hard going to knit with, but worth the effort as it produced a soft cuddly toy. The hat and shoes were knitted in a matching soft creamy yellow.

Blog Bear 2

No matter what you knit if you add a little bear with it it becomes an irresistible little gift!

Teds in Bed

amber-bear

There is nothing sweeter than a little teddy bear all tucked up in bed. This project was all done in DK yarn on 4mm needles, and didn’t take long at all. The most time consuming piece was the knitting bag which was all knitted in one piece including the attached pillow.

amber-bear-4

It’s just the right size for a little girl to play with. The bear is 8 inches, her little teddy is 3 inches and the sleeping bag itself when finished is 9 inches in length.

amber-bear-2

The bear has a cute little candy striped nightdress and little bow.

amber-bear-1

The sleeping bag has a stuffed pillow at the top and appliqued bears sewn on the central panel. It was knitted in one piece, folded and sewn in place.

Both little bears fit snugly inside, all ready to be taken on a sleepover at Nana’s

More For The Toy Box…

With all the crafting and fitting in holidays I haven’t had much time to post lately, but here are a few items I’ve worked on in the last month.

Toy Group.jpg

Hopefully they will all go off as gifts to delight their new owners.

Hannah & Pip

Doll and Dog 2

As Autumn is fast approaching I thought a warm duffle coat would make a good seasonal addition to a dolls wardrobe and one she can use when taking her little puppy dog Pip for a walk!

Doll and Dog 4.jpg

The duffle coat is done in a simple garter stitch and I thought yellow toggles would work well with the yellow and green dress and yellow hair bows. The red lead attaches very nicely round the dolls hand.

Toy Group 1

Nothing nicer than meeting up with a friend. Both dolls are from the same pattern, just different hairstyles. Love using choosing the colours for the outfits, then seeing how different each one turns out.

From green & yellow to…

Doll in Pink

… to blue and pink…

Celia

and another one in similar colours.

Jack Bunny

Continuing with the duffle coat theme had to make one for a bunny

Bunny in Duffle 2.jpg

This time in turquoise and navy, which teams up nicely with the baggy overalls.

Baby Bear

This cute little 5″ bear would delight a little girl who loves putting dolls to bed as it fits beautifully in the 9″ Moses basket.

and looks very snug wrapped up in her blanket.

Matty and Tilda

I have been working on more bears this week. These two are from the same pattern by Ala and Ela

Matty and Tilda

DSCN4771

They are created in a sitting position and measure 8.5″ – 9″. Matty came out a bit bigger as I knitted a couple of more lines in the legs and body.

They are classic little bears and surpringly a quick knit, the hardest bit is sewing the legs properly so you get the bears in a sitting position.

I made Tilda first

DSCN4734I couldn’t wait to put the dress on her, love the pleated affect of the skirt.

DSCN4742

Think if I make her again I’ll try and make the legs jointed so she can also be put in a standing position. Just a word of warning don’t overstuff the arms or you will have a tight squeeze getting her into the dress!

DSCN4739The little bow in her hair adds the finishing touch.

After making her I had to make a boy teddy, so started work on Matty

DSCN4755

Although they are from the same pattern he does look a different little character.

DSCN4763

His little trousers and jumper fit quite nicely and he looks quite a cute cuddly bear waiting for someone to love him!

DSCN4766I like this pattern it makes a good traditional looking teddy bear and  I will certainly ake more of them in the future
