Little Blue Travel Coat

I did a bit of a stock check on my stash recently dividing the yarn into projects, for girls, boys and toymaking, and promised myself I would not buy anymore until some of it was used up, otherwise the stash will be taking over the house! So I have delved into the stash earmarked for ‘boys’ (bit sexist I know!)  and this is my first project which was both started and finished in 2014, a little blue travel coat.

Little Blue Travel Coat

DSCN2103The yarn is a wonderfully soft DK  in a powder blue to fit a baby 0-3 months.  The bottom of the coat and hood were knitted in a double moss stitch which gives a beautiful texture to the fabric, the top part of the coat and sleeves were knitted in 2 lines knit and two lines 1×1 rib pattern which gave an interesting contrast.

DSCN2095Instead of buttonholes I created two loops for the fastening and arranged the toggles in a double breasted position to give a classic or vintage look to the coat.

DSCN2101There is a generous hood to the coat and turnback cuffs which will keep the baby warm and snug while travelling around.

To complete the coat I knitted some little boots in double moss stitch and added a navy blue trim to match the navy toggles.

DSCN2097Off now to raid the stash for another project. With the miserable wet weather we are having at the moment in the UK the best thing to do is stay indoors when possible and knit, so at this rate I should soon have a decent level of stock built up again!
