The Mint Collection

Sorting through my ever growing stash of yarn I came across some beautiful mint green DK which I immediately put to one side, ready for the next project. Something very pretty and cool about this shade of green, so went through my ever growing collection of patterns to see what I could create with it.

First project was a baby Coat and Bonnet set.

Coat

This is based on an old vintage pattern which I’ve tweaked. The edgings and collar are a lacy pattern worked in white for contrast, with the button bands done in moss stitch. The pattern on the back and front is created by knitting square blocks of stocking stitch and moss stitch with an eyelet in the centre of each stocking stitch square.  This adds an attractive  texture to the coat, while the sleeves are worked in stocking stitch.

The matching bonnet was created using the same pattern with the neckband and chin strap worked in moss stich. The bonnet fastens with a little button. Shoes were created in moss stitch and decorated with little ribbon roses.

Next project created was the Ribbon Edged Bolero

This is a very cute little bolero quicky knitted up in stocking stitch.  The yarn used was white DK marbled with short runs of mint green which gave a pretty effect when knitted up. The eyelet edging was knitted separatley in a mint green, attached and threaded with white ribbon.

I felt the eyelet edging was pretty enough to be left without the ribbon decoration if preferred.  I was very pleased with this bolero certainly one that could be worn for special occasions

That is the mint collection sorted for the moment, although I still have a fair bit of the yarn left. Must team it with another colour and create something for a boy next time!
